Friend, vaccines save lives. They make it possible for children to avoid preventable deaths and have healthy childhoods.
Together with partners, UNICEF reaches almost half the world’s children with vaccines each year. These immunization efforts can be the difference between life and death.
Still, far too many children across the world are not getting the vaccines they need to protect them against death and serious disease. Conflicts, displacement, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate disasters have cut children off from routine immunizations.
Some 25 million children are now missing out on lifesaving vaccines every year, placing them at risk of preventable diseases.

This World Immunization Week, we want to show you how UNICEF and its partners are working to reverse the backslide in vaccination and protect the progress that’s been made to keep children healthy.
Here are some examples of how UNICEF is making an impact today:
- Reaching children most in need, especially in countries affected by conflict and instability, no matter how challenging or remote the setting is
- Strengthening the vaccine supply chain. As one of the world's leading buyers of vaccines, UNICEF helps increase global vaccine stocks and deploys innovative approaches to deliver vaccines
- Eradicating and eliminating diseases. Immunization campaigns are close to wiping out polio and making progress toward eliminating diseases like measles and rubella
No child should have their life negatively impacted by diseases that can be prevented with vaccines. UNICEF and partners are working with communities and organizations to make sure that years of advancements in immunizations are not reversed.
