We’re thrilled to share that Justice Democrats incumbent and Squad member Summer Lee has won her Democratic primary in Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district!

She didn’t just win — she won by a resounding margin, thanks to you and our people-powered movement.

AIPAC’s Super PAC pledged $100 million at the start of this cycle to take out the Squad, including Summer. They had every intention of spending in this race – but they didn’t, because they realized they would likely lose. And that is because all of us had Summer’s back and supported her campaign to out-organize AIPAC in every way.

This is a huge testament to our collective strength and resilience as a progressive movement. Now that it’s clear Summer won her primary, AIPAC’s Super PAC has already officially failed at their one goal for this cycle: taking out the entire Squad.

How Summer Beat the Republican Billionaires:
Summer and the local movement in Pittsburgh deserve all the credit in the world for working hard and out-organizing Republican billionaire-funded Super PACs like AIPAC and Moderate PAC. The opposition had to cross not only Summer and her team, but the Mayor, County Executive, and a local progressive movement that has done nothing but win for the last five years. In the end, they were unable to find a strong candidate to run against Summer.

Summer also had one of the most productive terms of all freshmen in Congress, delivering over $1.2 billion worth of federal investments for PA-12 for the same priorities she campaigned on while taking on MAGA extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene on the House Oversight Committee, all without missing a single vote.

Throughout this cycle, Summer touted the historic amount of money brought back to the district on the exact priorities she campaigned on in the first place. Investments to ensure cleaner air and drinking water, create green union jobs, improve infrastructure and transit, lower housing costs, combat hunger, fund research institutions, promote STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, and boost workforce development.

Summer delivered for the people of Western Pennsylvania, and the people had her back today.

This massive victory also shows that pro-Palestinian and pro-peace policies like a permanent ceasefire and conditional funding to the Israeli military have been and continue to be overwhelmingly popular with Democratic voters. From Day 1, the Squad has led the way and ensured the people’s voices are heard in Congress, including on this critical issue.

Once again, we’ve proved that when Justice Democrats works together with campaigns from Day 1, we can out-organize the right-wing millionaire and billionaire megadonors and overcome the tens of millions in attacks at the end.

We don’t have to just play defense when we are there from the beginning and can be ready to go on offense.
