While the House has finally passed critical foreign aid legislation to help our allies in Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, the months-long saga to get to this point has helped to illustrate just how broken our Congress has become. House Speaker Mike Johnson faced relentless pressure from Marjorie Taylor Greene and other members of the far-right Freedom Caucus, who threatened to introduce a motion to vacate the chair – the same legislative maneuver used to remove Kevin McCarthy from the speakership last year.

Because of controversial reforms to the arcane rules of the House, the motion to vacate has become a weapon of the extreme minority to stymie Congress from achieving the goals of the commonsense majority they oppose. That’s why No Labels had the foresight to advocate for rule changes in 2018 through our Speaker Project ([link removed] ) that helped curb some of the worst excesses of the extremes.

But these rules were largely overturned in recent years as party leaders have made compromise after compromise to appease the most partisan wings of their parties.

Now, No Labels is jumping back in the arena to fight for commonsense House rule reforms to restore a little common sense to Capitol Hill. Rep. Davis, who for decades has been a master of House procedures, will join us to discuss reforming House rules and how No Labels can help fix Congress.
