John, right-wing extremists have made it abundantly clear that they don’t care about equal rights – as evidenced by their relentless attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.
Countless “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” laws and policies have been implemented in schools across the country in the last couple years, bringing with them pronoun restrictions and exclusionary curricula. These harmful policy changes deprive students of their rights and force them to learn in an environment that seeks to exclude them.
RFS alumni are taking a stand against these predatory policies nationwide. In Florida, Jennifer Jenkins is fending off DeSantis’ culture war. Jenkins is just one of the 14 local school board members whom Gov. DeSantis targeted for defeat in this year’s election. A 36-year-old elementary school speech language pathologist who defeated a far-right incumbent in a deep red Florida county by nine points, Jenkins has gone on to stage often solitary fights in Brevard for LBGTQ+ rights.
