John, I love to get lost in nature — literally.
Back in the 80s, I once got separated from my hiking partner and ended up spending an unexpected night alone in Sequoia National Forest. While it wasn’t the adventure I had planned, it certainly deepened my appreciation for our national parks. But you don’t have to get lost in one to understand the awe-inspiring beauty these parks hold.
From the towering cliffs and waterfalls of Yosemite to the rugged coastline of Acadia, our national parks are irreplaceable treasures. These parks belong to all of us, offering every American a place of refuge and solace.
Yet the survival of these sanctuaries is under threat.
Oil drilling, pipeline construction, and mining from the encroaching fossil fuel industry degrade air quality, disrupt fragile ecosystems and wildlife habitats, and ruin the natural beauty we cherish.
The air quality in Rocky Mountain National Park has deteriorated, and the migration routes of mule deer in Grand Teton National Park have been disrupted, both directly linked to nearby oil and gas operations.
Iconic sites like Glacier National Park in Montana are seeing their glaciers melt away and could disappear within 30 years. Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Parks are facing increasingly severe wildfires that threaten their landscapes and ecosystems. Mesa Verde in Colorado suffers as drought and wildfires accelerated by climate change threaten the preservation of cultural artifacts.
Our parks are sanctuaries for countless species and a source of wonder for millions of visitors. They deserve our fiercest protection to preserve their ecological and cultural integrity and ensure our children and grandchildren can enjoy them for many years to come.
At the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, we’re dedicated to electing leaders who understand the urgency of protecting these treasures. We support candidates who champion robust environmental policies and oppose fossil fuel interests that jeopardize our public lands.
This Earth Month, your support can empower our mission like never before.
By getting involved — whether through volunteering with our endorsed candidates, making a donation, or spreading the word about our crucial work on social media — you're helping to elect climate champions who will protect and preserve our public lands for generations to come.
