Join us for the Spring Spark to ignite a Summer of Heat on Wall Street John!
|
This week, we're launching the spring spark of direct actions against Citibank's environmental racism. If you missed our webinar and rally on Monday, you can check out the recording in our blog, but we're confronting Citibank's involvement in environmental racism, LNG and petrochemical projects, health impacts, violations of Indigenous rights, and their contributions to climate change.
Actions are already planned in several cities on Wednesday, April 24th and Thursday, April 25th to hold the financiers of climate chaos accountable.
Check out the blog for a recording of Monday's curtain-raising event:

For those of you who prefer to read, here's a quick synopsis of why we're taking action, and why we’re focussing on Citibank:
Citibank's investments in LNG and petrochemical projects perpetuate environmental racism by disproportionately harming marginalized communities, including Indigenous peoples and communities of color. These projects pose significant health risks to nearby residents, including respiratory illnesses, cancer, and more. The legacy and accumulation of these impacts is especially clear in the Gulf South. For example, Citibank's investment in Formosa Plastics, responsible for the 2013 chemical plant explosion in Point Comfort, TX, highlights its complicity in environmental disasters and community harm.
Citibank has also shown disregard for Indigenous rights in its financing decisions, which exacerbates environmental injustice and violates fundamental human rights. And the bank funds climate change by investing in fossil fuel projects that undermine President Biden’s climate goals, as well as global efforts to combat the crisis.
All of this is just the sporing spark that will ignite our summer of heat on Wall Street, a massive, multi-week, inter-generational, multi-racial cavalcade of actions to stop the money pipeline that is funding the climate crisis forever.
There will be lots more information, new websites, and additional tools to get connected to the Summer of Heat campaign after this week's actions. So stay tuned and turn out where you can!
Thanks,
Drew and the 198 methods to defund fossil fuels crew
