Salaam AlaikumĀ John xxxxxx,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out to you today on behalf of Emgage Action to bring to your attention to recent events at Columbia University.

During a peaceful demonstration advocating for Palestinian human rights, over 100 individuals, including students and faculty, were unjustly arrested by the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The excessive use of force and criminalization of peaceful assembly is deeply troubling and cannot be ignored.

Columbia University, long regarded as a bastion of academic freedom, has veered off course from its core values by silencing dissent and suppressing free speech. This marks the first mass arrest on campus since 1968, signaling a troubling departure from its history.

Emgage Action is calling for accountability and immediate action from Columbia University:

1. Reevaluate Protest Policies: Columbia must urgently reassess its campus protest protocols to ensure they fully respect the rights of students and faculty.

2. Ensure Fair Treatment: Establish a clear and transparent process that guarantees the rights of protesters and ensures due process is upheld.

3. Drop Charges and Revoke Suspensions: All charges against protesters must be dropped, and any suspensions immediately revoked, to restore justice to those unfairly targeted.

4. Engage in Dialogue: It's imperative that Columbia initiates an open, honest, and transparent dialogue with the student body to address concerns and rebuild trust within the community.

Stand Up for Justice!

Join us in urging Columbia University to uphold its commitment to democratic values and academic freedom. Together, we can hold institutions accountable and ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. Your support is crucial in advocating for justice and fairness.

In solidarity,

Iman Awad
