Folks, the America Last Uniparty is alive and well.
As you may know, Speaker Johnson advanced a foreign aid package over the weekend. There has been quite a bit of misinformation about this legislation and the process behind it in an attempt to deceive the American people. But you deserve the truth, not Washington’s spin.
First and foremost, Speaker Johnson abandoned the last leverage House Republicans had remaining this Congress to secure our southern border. My conservative colleagues and I pleaded with the Speaker to attach border security to Ukraine aid, as both President Biden and Senate Leader Schumer repeatedly signaled that Ukraine funding was “must pass” legislation. Instead, Speaker Johnson produced a watered-down version of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which we passed last summer.
Yet he didn’t even try to tie this bill to Ukraine funding. Unfortunately, the Speaker’s decision to divorce the border security bill from the full foreign aid package was designed to provide political cover to Republicans who rightly faced pressure from their constituents to prioritize our borders over other countries’ borders.
So instead of fighting on the hill of border security as he promised, the Speaker locked arms with Democrats to advance a $95 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine, Gaza, Israel, and Taiwan.
At every turn, House Republican leadership tried hiding the heinous policies within these bills.
For example, the $61 billion Ukraine aid bill includes $481 million for Ukrainian refugee assistance and $300 million for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service. While lawmakers touted that $9 billion of economic assistance in this bill was provided in the form of “forgivable loans,” they failed to explain that the President can “cancel” 50% of the loan after November 2024 and the remaining debt in 2026.
Additionally, as House Republican leadership lauded its $26 billion Israel aid bill, they conveniently forgot to mention that $9 billion of this assistance is for humanitarian aid in Gaza. Iran-backed Hamas terrorists have openly admitted to stealing humanitarian aid. Why in the world would we send assistance to these terrorists — essentially funding both sides of the Israel-Hamas war?
It’s simple: We shouldn’t. That’s why my conservative colleagues and I introduced numerous amendments to remove this funding from the Israel aid bill. Yet House Republican leadership blocked our efforts because this Hamas aid was a red line for Democrats. In other words, Speaker Johnson refused to work with conservatives in order to appease radical liberals.
Unfortunately, Speaker Johnson used Democrats at every step of the legislative process to ensure his America Last foreign aid package passed — all while abandoning the safety and security of our borders. Nothing illustrates this stunning betrayal better than Democrats celebrating on the House floor by waving Ukrainian flags as Americans suffer from President Biden’s intentional illegal invasion.
Please know that I opposed every piece of the Swamp’s America Last foreign aid package, as I refuse to exacerbate our $34.6 trillion national debt or turn a blind eye to our wide-open southern border. You and your family sent me to Washington to put America FIRST — and I will continue fighting to do just that.
