The “quiet coup.” That’s how some are referring to the sinister plot known as Project 2025.
Organized by MAGA Republicans and conservative think tanks, Project 2025 is their plan to take control of and weaponize federal government institutions against the American people if Trump is reelected this November.
A recent article by Right Wing Watch’s Peter Montgomery describes it this way:
“[Project 2025] indicates a movement-level, ideological shift away from a libertarian mistrust of government power and toward an authoritarian view of government power being used ruthlessly—whether as a righteous force wielded to advance a “biblical worldview” or turned against an “administrative state” supposedly captured by a radical Marxist left.” [1]
It’s hard to overstate just how extreme and dangerous Project 2025 is for our rights and democracy. It’s a way for MAGA Republicans to rapidly advance their extreme and unpopular agenda by co-opting government institutions, purging civil service employees unwilling to express loyalty to Trump or their ideology, prosecuting political opponents, and weaponizing the courts and Congress to implement their archaic social agenda.
We cannot allow their plans to move forward.
Project 2025 is so extreme in its reach and ambition that it could make the first Trump term feel like a fond distant memory.
The violence and rhetoric that defined the January 6 insurrection would be replaced by a calculated and organized army of MAGA loyalists – fighting not on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building, but from within the institutions of government they seek to destroy: reinstating Trump’s policies and taking them to the next level of extremism.
