John, the passing of the Rwanda Bill yesterday should be the last spiteful act of this Government.

After being told by our own Supreme Court that Rwanda is not a safe haven for those fleeing persecution in their own countries, the Government has been reduced to passing legislation <[link removed]> which permanently designates it as safe, essentially plugging its collective fingers in its ears and pretending it can't hear whatever facts are presented to the contrary.

We've answered all your questions on the Rwanda Bill on this FAQ page <[link removed]>, and will work tirelessly with other campaigners to see the end of this cruel policy as soon as we can.

This isn't the email I wanted to send you this St George's Day, but there could be no greater reminder of our proud history of compassion towards those fleeing persecution than the fact that England's patron saint was a benefactor of such acts himself:

Until then, please share the graphic above as a reminder of the proud standards we once aspired to and to remind the country what true English patriotism looks like.

And perhaps by next year's St George's Day a new government will have reversed this cruel legislation.

Very best,

Naomi
