This year, I am proud to co-sponsor SB 1426 (Blakespear), which ensures that no Californian that wants to reduce waste sent to landfills is prohibited from doing so. For the past twenty years since my time on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, I’ve been leading efforts to divert more waste, sounding the alarm about our overflowing landfills [[link removed]] and the harm their emissions cause local communities [[link removed]] . SB 1426 expands access to supplemental waste diversion services to help California divert more waste from landfills – which new studies have found are emitting 40% more climate altering methane gas than previously estimated [[link removed]] .
