** Filling mass graves with slaughtered civilians from Palestine to Guatemala is, in effect, part of US-led, Western foreign policy

With utter dismay Rights Action continues to denounce the horrific situation in Palestine, supported and legitimized by the US, Canada, EU and Australia. As Israel continues its ethnic cleansing slaughter and death by starvation in Gaza, Palestinians are discovering and exhuming mass graves filled with murdered and executed civilians.

Since 1995, Rights Action has supported Mayan communities as they work with the FAFG (Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala ([link removed]) ) to locate and exhume mass graves wherein lie the remains of their loved ones slaughtered by the US and western-backed military regimes in the late 1970s and 1980s. To a similar degree, US and western-backed military regimes filled mass graves in El Salvador with the slaughtered civilians during the same time period.

“Even if 30 forensic teams worked for 30 years, that still wouldn’t be enough resources or time to exhume all the mass graves in Guatemala.”
(Fernando Moscoso)

In these Rights Action archives, find articles and reports about work and struggles to unearth the truth about and seek justice and reparations for the genocides, massacres and other crimes against humanity in Guatemala:

The Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA ([link removed]) ) is reporting on the genocide trial today of US-backed General Manuel Benedicto Lucas Garcia, responsible for the slaughter of thousands of Maya Ixil civilians, … whose bodies were dumped in mass graves.

Zero accountability in the Global North

There has been no legal or political accountability whatsoever for the full political military, economic support that these regimes receive – past and present - from the US, Canada, Australia and western Europe.

In effect, supporting the slaughter of civilians and dumping their remains in mass graves has been and remains part of US, Canadian, EU and Australian foreign policy.

Rights Action supports calls for:
* Immediate and permanent ceasefire.
* Immediate delivery of massive amounts of comprehensive humanitarian relief.
* Release of all hostages, political prisoners and illegally detained people.
* Support, for as long as it takes, for a comprehensive negotiation process that deals with the extreme death, suffering and destruction happening right now (beginning on October 7), and that addresses the historic root causes, going back to 1948, including the establishment of the Israeli Apartheid system and the violent, illegal occupation and on-going illegal settler expansionism.

Rights Action supports calls for:

Activism and work to hold the US, Canada, EU and Australia legally and politically accountable for supporting and legitimizing Israel’s systematic crimes against humanity against Palestine and the Palestinian people.

Urgent need to diversify media sources

Rights Action urges everyone to diversify their news sources. We suggest the daily news coverage provided by Al Jazeera news ([link removed]; @AJEnglish) and Democracy Now (www.democracynow.org; @democracynow).

These are not the only other sources, but they provide serious reporting on the Israel/Palestine situation, and are a necessary antidote to the oftentimes harmful, misleading reporting coming from much of the mainstream government and corporate media in the US, EU, and Canada.
