Today, we are calling on you to sign our “Time for $5” petition and demand that test manufacturers Cepheid and Danaher drop their price of the lifesaving GeneXpert medical test to $5 per test.

Why is it so important to get the price down? At Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), we use GeneXpert tests every single day in our medical humanitarian work around the world. They are critical to quickly diagnose people who are suffering from a range of diseases, allowing us to provide lifesaving treatment as early as possible.

More affordable tests mean MSF and other health care providers can buy more tests and treat more patients. And if Danaher and Cepheid sold the GeneXpert tests for $5 each, they would still make a profit.

So why are people losing out on a test that could save their lives? It’s horribly simple: Cepheid and Danaher are putting their profits over people and are marking up the price of GeneXpert tests by 200 to 400 percent, keeping them out of reach of people who need them.

Tell Danaher and Cepheid to stop profiteering and drop the test price to $5. Sign our petition now.
