Click here to view the schedule online.     In the Office America Stands with Israel Last week, I voted yes on H.R. 8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 to support America's ally and sole democratic partner in the Middle East after Iran launched hundreds of drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles into the country. Kansans in the Big First proudly stand with Israel and know that its victory against Iran and their terrorist proxies is in the best interest of both America’s and Israel’s national security. The Biden Administration's mission has been to appease the regime in Tehran as if it would be effective in discouraging their bad behavior. President Biden’s weakness on the world stage has empowered Iranian proxies and put the entire region at risk. In the aftermath of October 7, House Republicans have: Supported Israel's right to self-defense Condemned Hamas' terrorism Rejected antisemitism Reaffirmed America's commitment to Israel's sovereignty Pushed the Biden Administration to prevent more Iran-funded terrorism Fully funded U.S.-Israeli missile defense programs Listen to my full remarks on the House Floor. American Agricultural Producers Need a Five-Year Farm Bill Now In the almost five and a half years since the last farm bill was signed into law, the world has drastically changed. Congress must pass a comprehensive, five-year farm bill that is long enough to provide certainty to producers and short enough to respond to market changes and strengthen the safety net accordingly. American farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers deserve it, America’s food and national security depend on it, and Congress must deliver it. Listen to my full remarks on the House Floor. Urging President Biden's EPA to Withdraw Burdensome Emissions Regulation This week, I joined my colleagues in sending a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expressing opposition to the California Air Resource Board’s (CARB) request to institute an in-state locomotive emissions regulation that effectively leads to a ban on diesel-powered locomotives in California. Under California’s proposed rule, railroads would be required to pay draconian compliance costs even though railroads have already invested in technology to reduce harmful emissions. Additionally, the rule completely ignores that the industry continues to work to develop and test zero-emission locomotives. This burdensome regulation disregards these good, earnest, voluntary efforts and could bring small railroads to a halt as more than 60% of locomotives operating in California arrive from other states. California’s rule threatens to undermine the fluidity of the national freight rail network. If EPA approves this regulation, the financial constraints and supply chain disruptions would be felt in Kansas and around the country. I will not stop fighting to cut red-tape and burdensome regulations that harm Americans and our economy. Click here to view the full text of the letter.     Kansans in the Office Kansas Livestock Association It's always great catching up with the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA). Last week, we discussed labor shortages, stepped-up basis, and the importance of a five-year farm bill. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I value KLA’s input and am grateful for the opportunity to meet with them. Thanks, KLA, for visiting me in Washington D.C., and for all you do for Kansas livestock producers! National Cattlemen's Beef Association The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is the oldest and largest national organization representing America's beef producers. As the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry, I value their insight and leadership in the current state of cattle markets. Thank you, NCBA, for your advocacy on behalf of producers in Kansas and across the country. Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association I appreciated meeting with the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association last week. With a disrupted supply chain and inflation still running rampant, our local restaurants, hotels, motels, and hospitality businesses feel the weight of higher operating costs and burdensome red tape. I appreciated hearing directly from them how the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 can help alleviate some of those burdens and give Kansas small businesses the breathing room they need to thrive. I will continue to defend and support our Kansas small businesses. Cosmosphere President and CEO, Jim Remar I met with the President and CEO of the Cosmosphere, Jim Remar, while he was in Washington, D.C. last week. Located in Hutchinson, the Cosmosphere holds one of the most significant collections of U.S. space artifacts in the world, second only to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Jim updated me on the museum’s renovations, its internationally recognized work in space artifact restoration, and its vast STEM education programs. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce plays an important role in the commercial, industrial, educational, and civic interests of their community. During our meeting, chamber members shared details about current and upcoming projects in Lawrence that will contribute to economic vitality, support local businesses, and foster a thriving community in Lawrence. Thank you for all of you hard work! Kansas Emergency Nurses Association I appreciated the opportunity to meet with members of the Kansas Emergency Nurses Association and hear about the great work that nurses in the Big First are doing. Nurses are critical components to our health care systems, and I'm proud to cosponsor legislation like H.R. 2584, the Safety from Violence for Healthcare Employees (SAVE) Act, which ensures protections for our nurses and healthcare workers. Growth Energy It was great having Kansas ethanol producers and Growth Energy in the office last week. Growth Energy is the leading biofuels trade association in the country. Biofuels are an integral part of the all-of-the-above energy strategy that we must embrace to reclaim American energy independence, and I will continue to support legislation that unleashes all forms of Kansas and American energy production. BIOKansas BioKansas is a bioscience organization in Kansas focusing on advancing our state's biological industry. I enjoyed meeting with members of their team and discussing the innovative work they are doing in Kansas – the hub for animal health, research and development, and economic vitality.       Visiting Washington, D.C.?
