Trump rages after first day of trial, says presidents must be granted full immunity to "cross the line"
The serially indicted cult leader is clearly having a rough go of things lately, sitting all day in criminal court without his phone to thumb-smash inane musings and incendiary screeds alike. So, naturally, after the judge overseeing Trump's hush money trial adjourned on Monday, the fraudster promptly shared a signature caps-locked diatribe where he demanded that he — and any president, for that matter — be granted "FULL IMMUNITY," even for events that "CROSS THE LINE." The disgraced ex-president then tried to make a clumsy, "ROGUE COP" comparison, which didn't made a lick of sense, before closing with a wink-and-a-nod "GOD BLESS THE SUPREME COURT!" plea to his cronies on the high court. Fun fact: Should the Supreme Court somehow buy into Trump's bullshit "total immunity" argument — and, of course, they should not — it would only apply to federal cases, not his current trial in New York. Donald knows this, of course, but it won't stop him from trying to blur the lines and martyr himself before his fawning MAGA base.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump commits new violation during criminal trial
The serially indicted recidivist violated his gag order for the umpteenth time, disparaging and attacking yet another witness — Michael Cohen, for those keeping score — outside a New York courtroom, where he is on trial for illegal hush money payments he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and others in 2016. Trump's incessant habit of attacking and intimidating witnesses hasn't gone unnoticed by the presiding judge, but here's hoping Trump's EIGHTH such violation will finally result in some sort of meaningful punishment.

McConnell plots to use election-denier to retake Senate
Ruben Gallego for Senate: Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to retake the Senate, even if that means giving power to one of the most radical of Trump’s election-denying, democracy-threatening acolytes, Kari Lake. Her election lies helped spark the mob attack on January 6th and has even called for gun violence if Trump gets convicted of his crimes. This November, she'll be running against star Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego, and it's on all of us to help Ruben ensure that Kari Lake never sees the inside of the Senate. Will you chip in to protect our Senate majority and elect Ruben Gallego?
Independent review shows Israel has failed to provide any evidence of UNRWA staff links to Hamas
Nearly three months after the fact, Israel has yet to provide supporting evidence of its claims that employees of the UN relief agency UNRWA are members of terrorist organizations, an independent review led by the former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna has said. Allegations of the involvement of UNRWA staff in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel led major donors in January to cut their funding to the agency, the main channel of humanitarian support not only to Palestinians in Gaza but to Palestinian refugee communities across the region. The funding was cut despite the dire needs of 2.3 million people in Gaza, most of whom have been forced from their homes by the unrelenting Israeli offensive and have been struggling to find water, food, shelter, or medical care. The absence so far of evidence to underpin Israel’s allegations has raised questions about the snap decision by donor countries to cut millions of dollars of funding to UNRWA as the Gaza death toll soared, the health system collapsed, and famine began to loom.
Supreme Court divided over homeless ban and rights of the unhoused
Supreme Court justices expressed concern on Monday about punishing homeless people for sleeping outside when they have nowhere else to go, while also struggling with how to ensure local and state leaders have flexibility to deal with the growing number of unhoused individuals nationwide. The court’s review of a set of Oregon anti-camping laws could lead to the most significant ruling on the rights of the unhoused in decades, with potentially sweeping implications for state capitals and city streets. An estimated 600,000 people are experiencing homelessness nationwide, and nearly half sleep outside.

Pro-Palestinian protests sweep US college campuses following mass arrests at Columbia
Columbia canceled in-person classes, dozens of protesters were arrested at New York University and Yale, and the gates to Harvard Yard were closed to the public Monday as some of the most prestigious US universities sought to defuse campus tensions over Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. In some instances, the protests have pitted students against one another, with pro-Palestinian students demanding that their schools condemn Israel’s assault on Gaza and divest from companies that sell weapons to Israel. Some Jewish students, meanwhile, say much of the criticism of Israel has veered into antisemitism and made them feel unsafe. Protests have roiled many college campuses since Hamas’ deadly attack on southern Israel, when militants killed about 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and took roughly 250 hostages. During the ensuing war, Israel has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to the local health ministry, which doesn’t distinguish between combatants and non-combatants but says at least two-thirds of the dead are children and women.

Supreme Court tosses aside Kari Lake's voting machine lawsuit
The conservative-stacked high court shot down perpetual loser Kari Lake's latest legal escapade, declining to hear the former local news anchor's futile lawsuit to stop Arizona from using electronic voting machines on spurious grounds that they could be theoretically tampered with. The Supreme Court's decision means a lower court ruling against Lake will stand, ostensibly giving the Republican Senate hopeful and anti-abortion zealot more time to do what she does best — turning off voters on the campaign trail.

Prosecutors in California excluded Jewish and Black jurors, records suggest
In news that is as shocking as it is unsurprising, a California district attorney’s office is reviewing dozens of death penalty cases after it unearthed records suggesting prosecutors deliberately excluded Jewish and Black jurors from capital trials. Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, whose jurisdiction includes Oakland, announced Monday that her office had uncovered highly problematic and downright racist handwritten notes by former prosecutors documenting discriminatory jury selection tactics in the 1990s. The prosecutors who wrote the notes were not named, of course. Price said her office has identified 35 cases — dating as far back as 1977 — that could be impacted and that it will review "for any signs of being tainted by prosecutorial misconduct."
Trump agrees to new conditions for $175 million bond in civil fraud case
Attorneys for the disgraced ex-president agreed to tighter bond conditions for his historic civil fraud trial in New York City, which will prevent New York Attorney General Letitia James — for now — from seizing Trump's assets or freezing his bank accounts while he fights the staggering $464 million judgment against him. Prosecutors successfully argued for stricter conditions because they didn't trust the financial health of the insurance company, Knight Specialty Insurance, who posted the bond for Trump. Knight, run by billionaire Trump backer and "king of the subprime car loan" Don Hankey, has violated federal law on multiple occasions and relied on sketchy risk-transfer practices to artificially bolster the surplus it used to cover the serially indicted con man's bond. Now, under the new conditions, Knight won't be allowed to touch the funds it used to secure Trump’s release and will have to leave it in a money market account — only to be withdrawn from to pay Trump’s bond if needed.
