John — we'll be quick, but we had to share this with you.
The United States Postal Service has an opportunity to generate significant revenue while also helping underserved communities — through postal banking. Postal banking would allow citizens to open a bank account at their post office, expanding access to banking to over 7 million American households lacking checking accounts or basic financial services.
Postal banking would make basic financial services like savings accounts, checking accounts and small-dollar loans widely available at post offices, which often serve as community hubs. It could also help to eliminate predatory banking practices like high-fee prepaid debit cards, overdraft fees, and predatory payday loans.
Add your name to our petition: we’re calling on Congress to reintroduce and pass postal banking legislation.
Postal banking could be a valuable asset to our communities. Let’s work together to make it a reality.
