When a paving crew found Honeydew pig on a New York roadside, she was weak, sunburned, and covered in road rash. She likely fell from a truck bound for the slaughterhouse.
Nearly all animals raised for food in the United States live on cramped factory farms—and the day they are transported to slaughter might be their only chance to see the sky or feel fresh air on their skin.
Some animals won’t even survive the journey, and the few that manage to escape are left to fend for themselves, sometimes on busy, dangerous roads.
After a short stay at our Watkins Glen Sanctuary, we transferred Honeydew to her perfect forever home in Oklahoma, where she now lives with two other rescue pigs, Rhubarb and Pistachio!
Our Rescue and Placement team gets hundreds of calls for help representing thousands of animals like Honeydew every year—and we must always be ready to act when an animal is in crisis.
I know it breaks your heart as it does mine to know that there are so many animals out there in need of urgent care—but together, we can make a difference.
Your contribution will equip us with the resources we need to act quickly, help animals in need, and continue fighting for an end to farm animal cruelty.
