Stop the Iroquois Pipeline Expansion
Comment by Monday, April 29
Claiming that NYC and Long Island need more gas, the owners of the upstate Iroquois Gas Pipeline have applied for permits to expand two compressor stations in Dutchess County in order to push more gas through its system. We don’t need the gas, we don’t need to be billed to expand a system we don’t need, and we don’t need to subject our neighbors to yet more pollution from the compressor stations. Comments to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will be accepted through next Monday, April 29. Tell the DEC to deny the permits. March in the Mermaid Parade
Saturday, June 22, 1:00pm
Coney Island, Brooklyn
Join 350Brooklyn in collaboration with Artichoke Dance Company as we march in the iconic Mermaid Parade as the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch.” We need volunteers to carry banners and signs as well as to be part of our moving installation. Power Hour: It’s not Earth Day if you don’t Make Polluters Pay!
Mondays, 12:00pm
on Zoom
NY State Assembly Speaker Heastie chose to side with fracked gas producer and utility National Fuel by excluding the Climate Change Superfund Act and the NY HEAT Act from the state budget. Call your State Assembly member to demand that they pass these groundbreaking pieces of climate legislation for Earth Week. While we ponder weak and weary, everything you need to take action is here. For more hard-hitting and timely actions, sign up for Power Hour — we meet every Monday at noon, no experience necessary.
Albany Update: A Bad Budget.
On Thursday, April 18, the Governor, State Senate, and Assembly released the part of the state budget that addresses the environment. Or, in this case, fails to address the environment. The 2025 NYS budget will have little spending on climate justice nor does it include the NY HEAT Act or the Climate Superfund Act. Essentially, this is an abdication of responsibility for the most threatening development of our time. Governor Hochul and Assembly Speaker Heastie bear the primary responsibility for this dismal outcome. You can read NY Renews’ statement here. Many other organizations have issued similar statements.
