Electric vehicle charge points installed at Toton Park and Ride ??

Thanks to the Government’s Transforming Cities fund [ [link removed] ] Nottingham City Council has installed eight 50kw rapid charge points at Toton Park and Ride, making it the largest rapid charging hub on the D2N2 network. The public charge points are located in dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging bays and positioned strategically just off the A52. A solar canopy and battery storage have also been installed, providing a renewable energy source that can be stored and used when it is needed.

City centre transport projects kicking off soon

East Midlands Mayoral election - Thursday 2 May
election

The election for the new Mayor of the East Midlands will take place on Thursday 2 May. The new mayor will have powers to work with local councils, businesses and stakeholder on transport planning and initiatives across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Workplace Travel Service to continue helping local businesses to go greener

Nottingham City Council’s Transforming Cities [ [link removed] ]-funded Workplace Travel Service has wrapped up after two years after helping 87 local businesses and organisations.  

Although the initial Government support for Nottingham City Council’s Transforming Cities-funded Workplace Travel Service has ended, the authority has another stream of funding for 2024/2025. This comes from the Government’s Local Transport Plan Integrated Transport Block, which means the team can assist more local businesses and organisations with sustainable travel improvements. 

In the past two years, the Workplace Travel Service has:  


* Worked with 87 local businesses and organisations to support them with either 100% or 75% funded improvements 
* Awarded more than £800,000 in grants to enable the installation of green travel measures, including EV chargers, bike shelters, pool e-bikes and more

More than 275 racks for e-bikes and e-scooters to be installed across Nottingham ??
Lime e-bike parking

Funded by the Transforming Cities fund [ [link removed] ] and in preparation for the return of the e-scooters, Nottingham City Council is installing 275 racks for e-bikes and e-scooters to help improve parking. So far 140 racks have been installed and the rest will be introduced by June 2024. Locations for the racks have been prioritised based on areas where:


* There is high usage of the e-bikes and e-scooters
* The current parking arrangements aren’t working and there is anti-social behaviour
* There are good connections with the local transport network.

Lime e-bikes launched a year ago in April 2023 and so far more than 130,000 rides have been made across the city.

Progress on planned new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over River Trent

Great news, the new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Trent has been approved by our planning committee.

The next step in the process is for it to be reviewed by Rushcliffe Council and if they approve it then it's full steam ahead for the first new bridge over the Trent in six decades!

Upgrade to Nottingham Cycle Parks ??
Broad Marsh cycle park

Thanks to Government funding, an upgrade to the entry systems at all Nottingham Cycle Parks across Greater Nottinghamshire is taking place this spring.

All twenty CCTV monitored Cycle Parks will be fitted with brand new readers that allow customers to scan in and out of the Cycle Parks using their smartphones. This reliable and convenient improvement will remove the necessity for customers to carry around their access card with them. Customers being able to access the Cycle Parks through a unique smart credential on their smartphone/watch will also greatly improve the security of the Cycle Parks.

Get ready for National Walking Month
app

*May is National Walking Month! *

Nottingham City Council’s Travel Well projects have joined up with the GoJauntly app to help you find new walking routes around Nottingham. 

The guide is step by step, showing your photos of what you should see, as well as a map.  It lists any beautiful green spaces and heritage sites within the areas you might not yet have seen. Colwick Park paths shine in stormy weather

The recent very wet weather has led to plenty of muddy walks - but not for users of Colwick Park, thanks to our Transforming Cities funded improvements which were completed in 2023. 

The popular walk around the lake became extremely muddy at times particularly during the winter months, making it difficult for park users, including Colwick parkrunners, and impossible for those using pushchairs, wheelchairs or bikes. 

It was planned that the project could add 1.5km of paved footpaths, improving access and use of the park for wheelchair users, pushchair users and cyclists, but Nottingham City Council have now completed over 4.5k of footpaths using the funding, after seeing the impact and positive feedback that resulted. 

The new paths are 3 metres wide, giving enough room for cyclists, pedestrians, wheelchair users and pushchair users to enjoy the park.
