 Dear Friend, Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day—a day dedicated to celebrating our beautiful planet and uniting in the fight against environmental threats. This year, the theme of Earth Day is focused on one of our greatest challenges: plastic waste. Microplastics, tiny fragments from broken-down plastic or manufactured products, are everywhere. Microplastics are in our air, water, food and our bloodstreams. These particles not only harm marine life and wildlife, they pose health risks to us all. The Green Party of Canada is committed to ending this cycle of pollution and creating a cleaner, healthier future for everyone. It’s important to remember that taking action to protect the planet makes sense financially, delaying or rolling it back doesn’t. Reducing plastics pollution will reduce harm to human health and put less strain on our healthcare system. Making our homes more energy efficient reduces carbon pollution in the atmosphere and reduces the cost of heating and cooling. Supporting active transportation options and better public transit reduces pollution and improves well-being. Increasing local food production and supporting local farmers makes us less vulnerable to drought and disaster-induced price fluctuations. It also gives us an alternative to the price gouging grocery monopolies. What we’re trying to say is this: the health of our communities, and our financial health, goes hand in hand with the health of our planet. This is why it's more important than ever to elect Green MPs who will advocate for bold, systemic changes. The recent federal budget, filled with half-measures, failed to address climate change and social inequality. We need leaders who will push for the strong environmental policies, affordable housing solutions, and economic justice that Canadians deserve. Your support makes a difference.
