PRESS RELEASE

Senator Tammy Brankley Mulchi Appointed to State Boards and Commissions

Clarksville, Virginia - The Senate Committee on Rules met in Richmond last week to appoint both elected legislators and Virginia private citizens to numerous state boards and commissions.

Virginia State Senator Tammy Brankley Mulchi was appointed to serve on the Virginia Workforce Development Board, the Virginia Small Business Commission, and the Henrietta Lacks Commission.

“I am honored to be appointed by my Senate colleagues to serve on these important bodies that impact the lives of Virginians across the Commonwealth,” said Mulchi.

The Virginia Board of Workforce Development works to increase coordination and operation efficiencies between educational programs with responsibilities and resources for employment, occupational training, and job attainment.

The Virginia Small Business Commission studies, reports, and makes recommendations on issues of concern to small businesses within the Commonwealth.

“I look forward to continuing to strengthen the work being done in Workforce Development in the state. We have seen the positive and promising results of providing a prepared workforce for current and potential employers in our area. Being a small business owner myself, I will be able to bring real-life experience to the Small Business Commission. I am excited about doing all I can to improve the lives of those who do the hard work of starting and running our small businesses,” said Mulchi.

The Henrietta Lacks Commission was established to sustain the legacy of her life-changing contribution to medical science by advancing cancer research and treatment through the creation of a biomedical research and data center.

Senator Mulchi commented, “I am honored to serve on this commission. I dare to say there is a family that hasn’t been touched by this horrible disease in some way. I am proud to serve on this commission that will continue to honor Ms. Lacks while seeking to fund further research and treatment.”

Mulchi was elected to the Senate of Virginia in a January 2024 special election to replace retiring Senator Frank Ruff. Senator Mulchi represents the Ninth District, which includes the counties of Charlotte, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Pittsylvania, Halifax, part of Prince Edward, and the city of Danville.

Happy Earth Day!

I hope you were able to get outside today and celebrate nature. I had the absolute pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for the Pamplin Extension at High Bridge Trail State Park. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation celebrated the addition of a one-mile segment connecting the trail to Pamplin City.
