Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells Endorses Vern Buchanan
“Buchanan is a fierce defender of local law enforcement”
BRADENTON, FL – Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells today publicly endorsed
Congressman Vern Buchanan’s re-election campaign.
“Congressman Vern Buchanan is a fierce defender of local law enforcement and a
fighter for the people of Manatee County,” said Sheriff Wells. “I fully endorse
his re-election campaign and look forward to working with him in the years
ahead to keep our community safe.”
Wells’ endorsement comes on the heels of Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad
Chronister endorsing Buchanan’s campaign and an independent poll showing
Buchanan with a more than50-point lead

over his primary opponent, Eddie Speir.
“There is not a more respected leader in Manatee County than Sheriff Wells,”
said Buchanan. “I cannot thank him and his team enough for all the work they do
to keep our region safe.”
Buchanan is the sponsor of the Thin Blue Line Act, H.R. 130

, to crack down on cop killers. Specifically, the legislation makes the murder
or attempted murder of a police officer an “aggravating” factor in death
penalty determinations. It has over 50 co-sponsors including seven from Florida.
The primary election for Congress will be held on Aug. 20.
