(Worth noting: While the Democrats initially authorized $813.3B for FY23, they ended up spending up to $916B – more than double the annual climate spending allocation over the initial DOD budget.)
Every time you hear Democrats brag about the “most climate spending ever” this election, remember that it’s not even close to enough (and tell them that).
For years we’ve been told that +1.5°C warming was the point of no return that had to be avoided at all costs. It was the basis of the Paris Climate Accords; a matter of survival for low-lying nations in the Global South; and a matter of long-term survival of the human species.
We’ve already hit +1.5° in the first three months of 2024. Now we’re on a fast track for +2°C.
Democrats keep bragging about the fact they’ve passed the biggest climate bill in history, but the critical data they keep leaving out is that it’s far too little, and almost too late for all of us.
This isn’t just my assessment as a lifelong antiwar and climate activist, and it’s not only the assessment of climate experts the world over (though that should be enough).
This truth is so obvious that even the world’s biggest polluters are raising the alarm. For over a decade now the Pentagon has called climate change the biggest threat to our national security – ignoring their own complicity in accelerating the climate breakdown.
The truth is so obvious that even Wall Street’s favorite, BLOOMBERG, says that “record climate spending” isn’t enough.
