John —
The Antiquities Act was enacted in 1906, and was the first U.S. law to allocate legal protection to our nation’s historically & scientifically important natural resources on federal land.
Since it was enacted, the Antiquities Act has helped us preserve some of our most valuable natural landmarks, such as the sacred Nevada mountain, Avi Kwa Ame, to Bears Ears and Gold Butte. These beautiful landscapes and formations are vital to local ecosystems, and hold hundreds of years of cultural narratives and history, serving as monuments to both our nation and its origins. And Republicans want to dismantle it.
Stand with Native activists across the country and add your name to our petition now. Congress: vote NO on the Congressional Oversight to the Antiquities Act. Preserve America’s culture and beauty!
Extremist Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives recently introduced H.R. 5499, the Congressional Oversight of the Antiquities Act, which seeks to undermine the power of the long-standing Antiquities Act and endangers our nation’s most valued natural landscapes and resources.
H.R. 5499 seeks to reverse decades of American efforts to safeguard our natural treasures. It will dismantle our previous pledges to further conservation and combat climate change, weaken the federal government’s relationship with the Native tribes, and alienate the millions of American voters who appreciate what our land has to offer.
Join us and demand your member of Congress vote NO on the Congressional Oversight to the Antiquities Act to protect our national treasures for future generations!
Thank you for taking action with us,
Democratic Values
