Across the country, Republicans are legislating away the freedom for women to access reproductive healthcare. Virginia is the last safe haven in the South for women’s right to choose, and we must fight to keep it that way.

As Chairman of the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee, I’m leading the charge to enshrine reproductive freedom into the Virginia constitution – once and for all. We are proposing that we put a referendum on the ballot, allowing Virginians to vote to amend our constitution, guaranteeing reproductive freedom to all Virginians.

The women in my life made me who I am today. I was raised by my mother and two sisters. So when politicians threaten to take away their right to self-determination, I will be a brick wall against those attacks.

Since Roe v Wade was overturned – a move former President Donald Trump proudly takes credit for – we’ve watched access to vital healthcare stripped away for millions of women nationwide. If we are going to prevent that from happening here in Virginia, we must speak out.
