Artillery shells were destroying her neighborhood in Kyiv. The Russians were coming. So Tetiana decided to take her two children, Mykyta - age 18, and Alisa - age 9, and run. They didn’t make it. Russian mortar shells murdered Tetiana and her children as they ran across a bridge towards safety.
Tetiana owned a Chevy minivan. They lived in an apartment with their dogs, Benz and Cake. As Russian forces advanced, Mykyta stayed up all night to watch over his mother and sister. Now they were dead because Russian forces shelled civilian evacuation routes.
This story brings clarity. It tells a story of right and wrong. A story of democracy and dictators. Just like each vote on aid for Ukraine brought clarity. We saw the Representatives with the moral courage to do what was right. We saw the Representatives who best personified our national character by voting to defend democracy.
The vote brought clarity regarding Kevin Hern. We saw that Kevin Hern lacked the moral courage to do what was right. We saw that Hern does not represent our national character. Hern failed. He voted NO to aid for Ukraine.
