Dear Friend, |
If we want to meet our obligation as a generation, as a
civilization, as a nation, we must create communities for our children
that offer the same opportunities for dignity, enrichment, prosperity,
and good health as the communities our parents provided for us. |
To achieve this, we must begin by protecting our environment: the
air we breathe, the water we drink, the wildlife, the fisheries, and
the public lands. |
These are not mere properties but belong to all of us—the commons,
the commonwealth, the landscapes, and waterways that connect us to the
10,000 generations before the era of laptops, and ultimately to
God. |
God communicates with human beings through many vectors: through
each other, organized religion, the great books of those religions,
wise people, art, music, literature, and poetry. Yet, He does so
nowhere with such detail, grace, color, and joy as through
creation. |
When we destroy a species or a
special place, we diminish our capacity to sense the divine, to
understand who God is, and what our own potential is as human
beings. |
I believe we deserve a President who cares deeply about these
issues and discusses them openly with the American people. |
I am committed to preserving our
environmental heritage for future generations and need your support to
make this vision a reality. Join
our cause and help ensure that our children can inherit a world as
rich and promising as the one we were given.
Thank you for your faithful support! |
Sincerely, |
