John, The Supreme Court is supposed to be fair and independent. Yet, we grapple with a conservative-leaning Court that continues to weaponize partisanship and strip away our rights, including reproductive freedom and voting rights.
The American people do not appoint Supreme Court Justices. Yet, the American people are ruled by the decisions these appointed officials make on a daily basis – and to great extremes. There must be legitimacy and independence for a body with so much power.
Currently, sitting justices serve for life. The United States is the only major constitutional democracy in the world that doesn’t have term limits for our top justices. 49 of 50 American states impose term limits, elections, or mandatory retirement ages on high court judges – but not our highest court in the land.

Our current system has turned judicial appointments into political weapons, and our Court has turned into a partisan power grab. Now, a majority of Americans have no trust in the Court.
We can fix this with much needed reforms, starting with term limits. The Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act of 2023 has been introduced in Congress. The TERM Act would introduce fixed 18-year terms for current and future Supreme Court justices and establish regular nominations of justices in the first and third years of each presidential term–a necessary, fair, and accountable reform to the judicial system.
Term limits can restore Constitutional checks and balances to the Supreme Court, ensuring that it remains a body of justice. As public trust in the Court continues to erode and extremists on the Court continue to strip our basic rights, we must demand Congress act.

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
