John, the balance of the Michigan State Supreme Court sits on a knife's edge.
The elections are nonpartisan, but progressives currently hold a slim 4-3 majority heading into this year's election, with 2 seats up for grabs. Progressives only have that majority because Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed the tiebreaking vote to an open seat last year.
The GOP has taken advantage of races like this across the country for years , counting on voters to not know who these judicial candidates are and progressive campaigns to not have the resources to educate voters. Then they combine deeply conservative judges with gerrymandered legislatures to solidify their power over the people.
That's coming to an end, and Michigan is a big part of that. We've got to keep -- and expand -- on the progressive advantage in the state Supreme Court to protect voters from electoral schemes and protect our rights, from a woman's right to make her own healthcare choices to protecting the environment to worker's rights and more.
