Earth Week edition!

Happy Earth Day! Even though every day is Earth Day to us, we’re especially excited to be hosting engaging events around the state and working closely with local communities to drive meaningful climate action. 

I’ve seen real progress in our state and around the country that gives me hope for the future. Congress and the Biden Administration passed the largest investment in climate action in U.S. history, local communities around the state are passing clean energy resolutions, and the EPA just passed the first ever federal drinking water standards for PFAS. 

Big things are happening, thanks to conservation voters like you, but we have to keep pushing this momentum forward. Get involved in one of our events this week and check out our webpage with all the resources you need to make clean energy home improvements.

Earth Week Events

Appleton, April 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Jessica, our northeast organizer, is partnering with the City of Appleton to talk about Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan and ways people like you can be part of the climate solution.

Ian, our southeast organizer, will be joining the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition for a networking brunch. He’ll give a presentation about the federal benefits available to homeowners.

Stevens Point, April 26 at 5 p.m.

Join Central Organizer Maxwell for his Earth Week Wine Walk. Folks from the local area will meet at Sunset Point Winery, go for a walk by the water, then talk about ways they can get involved to push Stevens Point to 100 percent clean energy and carbon neutrality.

Federal benefits available to you for clean energy home improvements

If you can’t join one of our events, you can still be part of clean energy solutions. Thanks to federal legislation passed in 2022, there are plenty of opportunities for you to save money while making clean energy improvements to your home.

We are continuing our door-to-door canvass this summer and will be knocking 100,000 more doors to make people aware of these federal benefits. In case you missed it, check out this video of the event we hosted in Madison last month with Dept. of Energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm.

Vote for a sustainable future

Working to protect the Wisconsin we love, and all the people in it, means using our voices at the polls. There are two important elections coming up on Aug. 13 and Nov. 5. 

On Aug. 13, there will be two constitutional amendments on the ballot that would put funding for local communities, clean water, and environmental solutions at risk. We urge you to vote no. 

On Nov. 5, voters will cast their ballots for important offices including the U.S. President, U.S. Senate, state legislature, and other other races across the state. Find all the voting information you need on our sister organization, Wisconsin Conservation Voices’ website here.

Take action on clean water

Everyone deserves clean drinking water, but communities around the state are still struggling with PFAS contamination. Take action today >>>

Ask your legislator to urge the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) to release $125 million in already-approved funds for PFAS remediation. It's been nearly eight months since Gov. Evers signed this $125 million into the state budget, but the JFC has still not released the funds. We don't have time to waste.

• Milwaukee’s NPR station did an in depth story on what’s happening with PFAS contamination and interviewed Government Affairs Manager Peter Burress. Listen here >

• We worked with Kyle Johnson at Black Leaders Organizing Communities (BLOC) to co-write this op-ed about the dangers of the constitutional amendments that were on the ballot in April. Read the op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel here >

• We were one of the independent groups investing the most in April’s local elections like the Green Bay city council and the Wausau mayoral race, which drew statewide attention. Read this article in the Green Bay Press Gazette >

• Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm came to Madison for an event we hosted at Board Member Cynthia Hirsch’s house. The story was featured on news stations around the state, including this one >

• In March, Native Vote Organizer Anne Egan-Waukau organized a mural event to get out the Native vote. The story came out on Milwaukee’s NPR station right before the April election. Check it out >
