Right now, in the middle of a pandemic and with more than 10 million losing their jobs, President Trump is refusing to let uninsured Americans sign up for health insurance.

You read that right. As tens of millions of workers are laid off or furloughed, and the coronavirus rapidly spreads, many workers and families are facing financial insecurity at the same time they lose the insurance coverage they need to affordably see a doctor or go to the hospital.

While some states, including California, have opened special enrollment periods for their residents to sign up for health insurance, Trump decided last week that he will not allow a federal special enrollment period through Healthcare.gov, leaving millions of the uninsured to fend for themselves.

This is cruelty for cruelty’s sake.

As coronavirus spreads across the country, we need to reopen Healthcare.gov and allow Americans everywhere to sign up for health insurance -- now more than ever. And Trump needs to reverse course.
