Being outside has always been important to my family, friend, and some of my earliest memories are floating down the Kishwaukee River.

That, and kayaking, are traditions I continue today.

If you just listen to nature, you’ll learn a lot. As the foremost climate scientist in Congress, I can tell you that we need more messaging around this, and less about the “upcoming” global catastrophe. 

Because week-to-week, year-to-year, my time on the river makes it clear that the climate crisis is impacting our day-to-day lives right now.

We’re paddling upriver on solving our climate crisis, and we owe it to our kids and grandkids to build a cleaner environment.

It's my goal to frame climate change through the lens of how it impacts our daily lives. The ‘here and now’ can't be denied, and we need to paint that picture if we’re going to protect our homes, communities, and favorite pastimes from extreme weather events.
