John, this Earth Day, I wanted to highlight an often overlooked component of our work to restore and protect our natural environment.
By now you understand the ecological imperative to rapidly transition energy production from oil, coal, and natural gas to wind, solar, and other forms of renewable clean energy.
What is less often discussed, but just as important to human health, is the need to aggressively pursue environmental justice policies in communities across America.
From cleaning Superfund pollution sites located adjacent to communities of color to ensuring clean air and water in places that have been disproportionately impacted by pollution, we can drastically reduce instances of asthma, cancer, heart disease, and many other health issues arising from pollution.
If you agree that we must not only transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, but that we also must clean up our communities to protect public health, add your name to my petition calling on the Senate to take up environmental justice legislation today. [[link removed]]
