Webinar on April 9 No images? Click here John, Spring has sprung and so has the growing season at local farms throughout the region. We are fortunate to live in a region with a rich and varied food network, including cultivated crops, foraged foods, and community food co-ops. However, the COVID-19 outbreak has changed our world fundamentally with disruptions for some, but far bigger impacts for others. This pandemic has impacted local farmers, fishers, shellfish growers, and consumers alike. Food producers find themselves without a market to sell their goods. Many communities worry they will not have enough food to feed themselves and their families. Join us to hear how COVID-19 is impacting food security for many communities and how farmers, fishers, and shellfish growers are adapting to getting products to people during this time. We’ll provide emerging information you can use to connect people with food providers.
Launched as a collaboration between WEC and Braided River, We Are Puget Sound is a book and campaign that connects people and place through shared actions. In the coming months, it will take all our collective action and community care to support our local farming and fishing economies that provide healthy food access for all. We must work together to tackle this pandemic just as we work side by side to address climate change and salmon crises, and restore Puget Sound. Just as climate change impacts the most vulnerable among us, so does the viral pandemic that only exacerbates the systemic inequities like food security. Attend the online event from the comfort of your home: Register today! Let’s support our regional farmers and fishers who grow and harvest food in ways that do not negatively affect our shared waters, but actually strengthen local economies, improve food security for healthy communities, and supply our community food co-ops.
