UNITED E-News April 2024 - A season of Activism!

Dear UNITED Network,

We hope this E-News finds you well after the tumultuous events of this month. Despite the enthusiasm surrounding our March campaign and the focus on this election year, we have been confronted with distressing news. The terror attack in Moscow, the ongoing tragedy of Gaza’s destruction, and the reintroduction of the “Foreign Agents Law” in Georgia have all weighed heavily on our minds.

From Rumors to Respect - Reggio Emilia Conference April 2024

These are challenging times, but they also call for our unwavering commitment to upholding human rights. For this reason we are very happy to meet at least part of you at our conference From Rumours to Respect: Challenging Stereotypes and Promoting Diversity, taking place on April 22nd-27th 2024 in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
If you won't be there with us make sure to follow our social media accounts to know what will be going on and get in touch with us to be involved.

MAKE YOUR MARK! A Call to Action for Democracy and Diversity

Our campaign was a blast! Thanks to the many entries we have we kicked-off our commitment to promote the values of inclusion and diversity ahead of this year #EUElections. This year in fact marks a pivotal moment in history—the largest global call to vote since universal suffrage began. For this reason we wanted to call to our Network and to everybody to use this European Action Week Against Racism to start a true and meaningful mobilisation towards the next EU Parliamentary Election but also as an inspiration to monitor and to critically analyse the other elections happening all over the world, identifying those candidates and parties who oppose human rights and use propaganda and polarisation to spread hatred and divide people.
BE THE AGENT OF POSITIVE CHANGE, BE THE DEFENDER OF DEMOCRACY AND DIVERSITY

To help the network and whoever would come across our campaign, we used this occasion to post other 2 leaflets, one dedicated to our 21st of March campaign (Hand in Hand for Diversity) and another one dedicated to understand how EU Elections work and how we can ensure we make our choices following human rights principles (Democrat's Cookbook). You can find them on our website among the "publications" section.

Bahtalo Romano Dives! International Roma Day!

Like every year we were happy to celebrate the day that gives us the chance to value the fundamental contributions that Roma communities bring to our societies. In particular we promoted two different events, with the 12th Harvard Roma conference titled "Confronting State Violence across the Globe", held in Boston but that was possible to follow online, and an hybrid event in Budapest, If All Ears Could Hear – Romani Archives of Tomorrow's Resistance, a panel discussion (circular forum) centred on the historical and present-day experiences of Rom*nja as they intersect with LGBTQI+ activism and memories.

UNITED attends ENAR ARDW 2024

The European Network Against Racism (ENAR) recently held its annual conference in Brussels on March 20-21, 2024, bringing together a diverse array of civil society organisations, policymakers, and community leaders to discuss the ongoing fight against racism and discrimination in the European Union.

The UNITED network, represented by Delegates Dr. Manal Benani and Eunice Ayen Ondo, as a pan-European network working to promote tolerance, democracy, and human rights, had the privilege to participate in the conference and contribute to the conversation while also promoting our campaign for this year Action Week against Racism, joining the slogan #EuropeForAll.

Let's reflect together on EU Pact on Migration and Asylum - Tell us what you think and let's make our call!

Last week our team reached a sad milestone: 60.000 migrant and refugee deaths documented on the UNITED List of Refugee Deaths since 1993. On this occasion we want to remember that this is not just a number.
60.000 individuals who fled hardship, war, persecution and natural disasters to pursue a better life in Europe. This URGES us to understand how the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum will affect people and if it will truly help those who seek for a safer and a better life on our continent. We have many doubts and that's why we want to hear our Network opinion about it to understand what should be our requests for EU Decision makers, especially ahead of these elections.
So get in touch with us, stay tuned for further updates and always #stayunited!
