If you’re a fan of The Chosen like I am, you know the drama series vividly brings the story of Jesus to life. I’m always struck by the way it depicts the disciples—12 ordinary men whom Jesus selected to launch the greatest spiritual awakening the world has ever known.


Most men and women in prison can relate to feeling unremarkable, unworthy, even marginalized, just as the disciples did. At Prison Fellowship, we are proud to

partner with the Come and See Foundation to make The Chosen

available in prisons nationwide so that incarcerated men and women may not only personally encounter the authentic Jesus, but also discover that they, too, have a role in building His Kingdom.


One of my favorite stories of this partnership comes from the Carol S. Vance Unit in Texas, the home of our first Prison Fellowship Academy. These men are journeying through a yearlong transformation process, digging into why they went to prison. They’ve hosted watch parties of each season, and they've discussed the episodes as a group. It’s even a conversation topic with their families who are watching the series back home.


My hope is that as more men and women behind bars encounter Jesus through The Chosen, they will draw near to Him for the first time, or in a new way. And I hope the series moves the hearts of believers outside prison, too, to see the marginalized and the lost as worthy of care and redemption—just as Jesus sees them.


As The Chosen so brilliantly demonstrates, Jesus came for all of us, regardless of our status or background. He bet on revival leaders coming from the margins, and I believe He can do the same today to bring spiritual awakening to our nation.
