Dear John,
Happy Earth Day! Today, as we celebrate the beauty of our planet and join people around the world in reaffirming the need to protect it, we’d like to thank you for joining the Nonhuman Rights Project in recognizing that a thriving future includes not just us humans, but all the beings who share the planet with us.
It’s never been clearer that we aren’t alone among animals in feeling a deep, irrepressible need for freedom, for wild spaces, for togetherness. Nor are we alone in experiencing love and loss.
And yet, irrationally, many people still deny how similar we are to other animals to try to rationalize our unjust treatment of them. This mentality runs through all our laws and institutions.
Still, there’s hope to be found–not just in change we’re making in the present but also in our vision of a future where the values and principles of justice that are meant to protect us–liberty, equality, fairness–are extended to other animals, too.
That’s why all this week we’re taking a glimpse into such a future in a special email series. Please donate now to help nonhuman animals get to this future–because Earth is for all of us.
