It may be hard to believe, but a typical schoolyard can actually be
dangerous for school children. When the hot sun is out, kids are left
with little to no shade, unable to escape the relentless heat. When
there's a downpour, schoolyards end up flooded, causing damage
that can make them inaccessible. With minimal play equipment, fighting
and bullying instead of active play usually ensues.
That's why Community Schoolyards projects are so important for
our children and our environment. For the last two decades,
we've worked with more than 280 schools across the country to
turn asphalt schoolyards into vibrant green spaces for children to
thrive. With your support, we can continue to swap out asphalt
for trees, gardens, and up-to-date playground equipment.
