Dear Friend,

On Thursday, the DC Council circulated a bill that would have made cash assistance available to people who are being left behind during the COVID pandemic. But over the weekend, it was removed. The Mayor and the Council must work together to make funding available and make sure it gets into the hands of those who need it now.

And we have until tomorrow to make it happen.

EMAIL MAYOR BOWSER AND CHAIRMAN MENDELSON TODAY

We call on Mayor Bowser to make $5 million available to DC residents who are ineligible for other cash assistance, and for the DC Council to legislate it’s use. We encourage them to make cash assistance available to residents who will not be able to access federal assistance or unemployment benefits and to work with local nonprofits to get it into residents' hands quickly.

Read more about why cash assistance is needed on our blog.
