Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is a festival celebrating Freedom in the month of Nisan, which Jews consider to be the “month of Miracles.” We celebrate the miracle of the Freedom of the Jewish People from 430 years of slavery in Egypt. We celebrate the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea which enabled the Jews
to escape the pursuing Egyptians. We celebrate the miracle of the survival of the Jewish People for 40 years in the desert. We celebrate the miracle that God gave the Jewish People the Ten Commandments and the Torah at Mount Sinai, We celebrate the
miracle of God bringing the Jewish People into the Land of Israel. We celebrate that God built for us the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, sent us the Prophets and made the Jewish People a Holy People. For all of these miracles we thank God and we say “Dayenu,”
meaning ”It would have been enough!”
But this year at Passover we ask for one more miracle for there are 134 of our brothers and sisters, Israelis and Americans, held hostage by an evil terrorist group called Hamas for approximately
200 days now. We pray for their safety and for their immediate release. We pray for the miracle of their freedom at this time of freedom and of miracles.
We “…pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,” and for the end of the war so that all may live in Peace.
We wish you and your family Chag Pesach Sameach and a Zisson Pesach.
