Small Business Committee
Main Street has been forced to play defense everyday thanks to this Administration’s regulatory agenda. As Chairman, I led a markup to discuss seven bills that improve access to disaster assistance for those in rural areas, increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and require federal contracts to be written in plain language so small businesses won’t need a team of compliance officers to be competitive. Watch my opening statement here.
The Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access held a hearing to review the SBIC and SBIR programs’ impact on small businesses. These programs often lack instructions for small businesses to follow. We've heard from many frustrated small business owners who have left with more questions than answers about the requirements, causing many small businesses to walk away from the defense market because they do not have a clear picture of what the full investment will be and cannot justify navigating the complicated regulations. Watch my opening statement and line of questioning.
Financial Services Subcommittee Hearings
This week the Subcommittee on National Security held a hearing examining how ransomware endangers our financial system. Ransomware attacks have become much more sophisticated by using new technologies like artificial intelligence and are able to go unnoticed by law enforcement. As technology is evolving around the world, we must stay up to date on the most advanced ways that technology is being used for illegal activity and stay ahead of the curve in our defense against these bad actors. Watch my line of questioning here.
In a second hearing, the Subcommittee Financial Institutions held a hearing to discuss CFPB Financial Reporting and Transparency. The CFPB ’s goal is to protect consumers from abusive financial practices. But, unlike most federal agencies, the CFPB was designed to operate outside of Congress’ annual Appropriations process. The CFPB must be held accountable for the damage they are causing to financial institutions and their customers. Watch my line of questioning here.
Congressional Pastors’ Briefing
It was an honor to speak at the Wallbuilders Congressional Pastors’ Briefing in D.C. We are facing an important time in our nation’s history, and now more than ever it is crucial that we fight for the future of our nation. May God bless the United States of America!
In Case You Missed It!
I joined the Chris Salcedo Show on Newsmax and the Mark Davis Radio Show this week to discuss the top issues facing our nation. From Chuck Schumer’s failure to fulfill his constitutional duty and hold an impeachment trial for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, to the failing economy and ongoing attack on the American justice system, America is worse off under the Biden administration. As your representative in Congress, I am fighting each day to uphold the values that matter most to you and get our country back on track.
In God we trust,
Roger Williams
Member of Congress
