Bridging these partisan divides is one of the great challenges of our time, and to become the more just, loving nation that we must be, it must be done with empathy, compassion, and kindness.

John, there is little doubt that some of the most extreme, far-right MAGA insurrectionists are driven by hatreds that can feel difficult to understand.

But when I travel the country and consider the angst and anxieties that people who might never consider voting for Democrats are feeling, I see fear — more than hate.

Fear that the only thing you can get from the health care system is a co-pay and an opioid addiction.

Fear that you are one disaster away from a missed mortgage or car loan payment.

Fear that your personal freedom is under constant attack.

Donald Trump helped create this culture of fear and anxiety by mismanaging a global pandemic and the subsequent economic collapse, and wouldn’t stop lying about it.

I’m proud to be a part of the effort to restore trust and hope for all Americans along with President Biden. And to bring down the temperature from the extreme partisan rhetoric that Trump and his surrogates so often engage in.

People who fear that Big Pharma controls the government need to hear the story of how Joe Biden and Democrats took them on — and won. We capped insulin at $35, and out-of-pocket prescription drug costs at $2,000 annually for Medicare.

People who fear living paycheck-to-paycheck need to see how our policies are putting more money in people’s pockets — with real wages rising faster than the rate of inflation, and the U.S. economy under President Biden outpacing the rest of the world in economic recovery.

And people who fear for their personal freedom need to understand that the party that is attacking the right to vote, reproductive freedom, and the right to free speech and assembly is led by Donald Trump.

We need to tell this story to the American people — and not just the ones who already agree with us. If you can afford it, John, I would personally appreciate it if you could contribute $3 to support this effort.
