CRITICAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE

Yesterday, I voted along with a bipartisan majority of the House to pass national security supplemental bills providing critical funding for the U.S. military and our allies in Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific. There are moments where action is optional.  A convenience but not a necessity.  A choice.  This is not that moment. The world is in chaos, Americans have been killed, and our allies and partners are dying on the front lines everyday.

As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and an original cosponsor of the bills, I had the honor of presenting the Israel aid bill on the floor before the vote. You can watch my remarks by clicking below and hear why I believe passing these bills is so vital to America’s national security.

SECURING OUR BORDER

Image

There’s no question President Biden’s failure to secure the southern border is a national security threat. Hundreds of people on the terror watch list have been caught crossing the border. Deadly fentanyl continues to flow across and into our communities.

No foreign activity is killing more Americans than the importation of fentanyl. As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee I included historic funding in the FY24 funding bill to tackle this threat.

The law includes:

  • $703 million for Defense Department counternarcotics support.
  • $306 million for the National Guard Counterdrug program, the highest level on record.
  • $30 million for National Guard Counterdrug Schools.

More must be done. I will continue to work to secure the border and protect Americans.

ABBEY GATE BOMBING

Image

Just weeks after the Abbey Gate bombing, national security officials knew the name of the bomber responsible for killing 13 American servicemembers. I publicly shared that name in September of 2021 because the families of the fallen, which include my constituents, deserved the truth.

After years have passed and multiple reports written, the Biden administration is just now for the first time confirming the name of the bomber and admitting he was released from the Bagram prison after U.S. troops and Afghans abandoned it.

It’s beyond shameful and nakedly obvious that the Biden administration has tried to bury this information for no reason other than to prevent further embarrassment from one of the deadliest foreign policy debacles in American history.
