Calendar Donate April 21, 2024 New County Chair Elected The EDC Democratic Party has elected a new chair to lead the organization during this presidential election year. Margaret Fortune, 52, of El Dorado Hills, has been elected chair of the El Dorado County Democratic Party. She has extensive experience in navigating political environments. She served as education advisor to two California Governors and founded a non-profit school system, which she currently leads, for over 2,000 students in grades preschool through 12. Motivated by her experience on the ground re-opening schools burned down in the Camp Fire, in 2023 Margaret became an elected member of the El Dorado Resource Conservation District Board, which promotes responsible stewardship of natural resources through education, planning, and project assistance. Margaret ran for the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in 2024. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for her substantial contributions to the field of education. Margaret and her wife, Anette, have lived in El Dorado County for a decade. Most recently, Margaret has served as the fundraising chair for the Party. Her plans as chair are to focus on fundraising to elect local Democrats, as well as organizing and communications. The mission of California Democrats is to fight for California’s most vulnerable communities, protect working families, and ensure that we live up to the promises of the California dream.
