News networks must stop giving election deniers a platform to promote lies. Millions rely on mainstream news media outlets — we cannot afford for them to spread disinformation and lies about America’s politicians and elections live on air.

In recent weeks, known election deniers and spreaders of disinformation, Rep. Elise Stefanik and former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel have been platformed by NBC News and Meet the Press.

Stefanik has already stated live on air that she will not commit to certifying the 2024 election results when they’re available, meaning she’s willing to disrupt our democratic process. NBC News recently hired “Big Lie” promoter Ronna McDaniel as a paid on-air commentator — and subsequently fired her after hearing disapproval from people just like us.

NBC’s switch-up shows that our voices have power. So let’s come together again and demand that they deplatform ALL election deniers: not just McDaniel. It’s simple — election deniers don’t value basic facts, the very things that the news must report. Allowing those who spew the “Big Lie” a platform on national news betrays viewers’ trust and outright violates journalistic & ethical commitments.

The purpose of journalism is to report the facts – not spread a dangerous lie that endangers our democracy as we inch towards one of the most important elections of our lifetimes.
