I know a lot of people are talking about today’s date – 4/20. And folks got jokes.

But 4/20 is also serious. Can I be Blunt for a moment, folks?

Hundreds of thousands of people are arrested every year for possession of marijuana. On top of that, Black Americans are almost four times more likely to be arrested and convicted for marijuana charges.

These are real people, our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. All whose lives have been turned upside down because of low-level, non-violent marijuana offenses.

It’s personal, but it’s also about jobs and the economy. Criminal records lead to barriers in finding employment, housing, and education.

Today, 9 in 10 employers require background checks. 4 in 5 landlords, and 3 in 5 colleges require background checks.

As Delaware’s Secretary of Labor, I traveled up and down the state and met with employers who couldn’t find good people to work. At the same time, returning citizens convicted of nonviolent marijuana charges struggle to find work.

This should not be the case. I’m running for Senate to help give people a second chance, while also creating good-paying jobs that stimulate our economy – for all Americans.
