Governor Walz visited Como Park Pavilion in Saint Paul to highlight the need for legislation to curb copper wire theft.?
?Copper wire theft is damaging to our safety, our infrastructure, and?local government budgets,??said Governor Walz.??I?m grateful for the partnership with St. Paul to come up with a plan to address the crime head-on. We know that targeting illegal sales is an approach that works ? since passing legislation aimed at catalytic converter theft, we?ve seen theft of vehicle parts decline by 80 percent.?
Governor Walz supports legislation that will help end copper wire theft and shut illegal sellers out of the market. Last year, the Governor signed a similar bill to crack down on catalytic converter theft. Since the law took effect in August, Minnesota has seen a sharp decrease in those crimes.
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced nearly $20 million in grants to build the state?s special education workforce.
?With this funding, educators and schools will be able to help more students get the resources they need to succeed,?said Governor Walz.??This is a big step on our path to building our education workforce and making Minnesota the best state for kids.?
?I?m proud of the work Minnesota is doing to make sure every student and educator has the resources they need,??said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.??Special education teachers play a critical role in our schools. With these grants, we can ensure that special education professionals and students can thrive in Minnesota.?
Governor Walz attended Veterans Day on the Hill where he recognzied Minnesota veterans for their service and highlighted state investments in three new veterans homes.
"This year alone, we opened the doors to new veterans homes in Bemidji, Montevideo, and Preston. We have a responsibility to ensure Minnesota?s aging veterans receive the care and services they need. Let?s keep up the good work," said Governor Walz.?
On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan welcomed new troopers to the Minnesota State Patrol.?
"I was proud to stand alongside the graduates of the 68th and 69th academy of the Minnesota State Patrol. Their dedication to Minnesota and its people couldn?t be clearer ? and our communities will be safer because of it," she said.?
