This week, FBI Director Robert Wray told a House Select Committee that Chinese Communist Party hackers are positioning against American infrastructure in “preparation to do real-world harm against Americans.”
As a former FBI Special Agent familiar with counterterrorism and cyber warfare, I can tell you that we are at risk. From our banking to communication systems and how we operate and live our daily lives, the U.S. homeland, including our Central Valley, is under threat.
U.S. Cyber Command is a division of the Department of Defense charged with, as they say, “owning the domain” —strengthening our nation’s ability to repel cyber threats and attacks. They are critical in the mission of protecting us from the Chinese Communist Party threat.
Let’s be frank. These advanced technological threats require new, capable leadership in Congress. Our congressional incumbent, Jim Costa, is not prepared or equipped to help lead us into the future or understand these advanced threats.

About: Michael Maher was raised in Tulare County where his parents still live and his father, who had been a pastor for over 30 years, continues to shepherd his church congregation in community. Michael and his wife Anne, who comes from a local multigenerational valley farming family, live in Fresno County where their two children attend local public school and where Michael owns and operates his aviation business.
Maher is a United States Navy veteran, and served abroad the USS Salt Lake City, a Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarine. Following the Navy, Michael graduated from Fresno Pacific University and then was accepted and graduated from FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Michael served as a Special Agent for the Bureau working in the National Security Division. Additionally with the FBI, Maher was the Counterproliferation Coordinator for the Los Angeles Field Office which included responsibility in supervision of Chemical Weapons Inspections.
