Immigrants Contribute Billions to Federal and State Taxes Each Year [[link removed]]
Without fail, each Tax Day a prevalent myth resurfaces that conceals the truth about immigrants’ contributions to federal, state, and local taxes. Bolstered by social media and other outlets, it misleadingly asserts that immigrants, particularly those who are undocumented, evade taxes. The facts don’t back up these claims.
USCIS Re-Issues Temporary Rule to Extend Work Permits for 800,000 Immigrant Workers [[link removed]]
Thousands of immigrant workers with pending work permit renewals, and their employers, breathed a sigh of relief. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a temporary rule that automatically extends the validity period of their work permits for up to 540 days, or about a year and a half.
FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Congress is currently considering legislation to reauthorize a section of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Two of the proposed bills include a provision that authorizes intelligence agencies to conduct searches without warrant of their databases related to immigrants traveling to the U.S., which would likely cover millions of people applying for immigration benefits every year.
The American Immigration Council sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives discussing the potential harmful impacts of the proposed amendment. The letter highlighted that this amendment is unnecessary given the multiple mechanisms already used to vet people entering the country and would only further exacerbate visa processing backlogs.
