John —

Today is the anniversary of the tragic shooting at Columbine High School, a stark reminder that 25 years later, our nation continues to grapple with the devastating impact of gun violence.

For too long, we've witnessed senseless loss of life due to preventable gun-related tragedies. It's time to say enough is enough and demand common-sense gun safety reforms, like requiring universal background checks, closing dangerous loopholes, and banning military-style assault weapons.

These aren't radical ideas — they're common-sense solutions that are proven to work and save lives. New York has the second-strongest gun safety laws in the country, with one of the lowest rates of gun violence. We owe it to the victims of senseless gun violence to take action. We can't allow their memories to fade into the background while gun violence continues to devastate lives.

Five years ago, after the tragic mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, I stood alongside hundreds of concerned citizens outside Congressman Lee Zeldin's office with a clear message: It's time to take action. In 2022, after Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress, they passed the first major gun safety legislation in decades, although our Representative voted against it.

But there is still more to do, and with Republicans now in charge of the House, and freshman Nick LaLota in office, no major legislation on any issue has passed, and chaos has reigned. This week, let's not just remember the innocent lives lost to gun tragedies — let's act.

Join me in advocating for sensible gun policies that protect our children, our families, and our communities by signing my petition and demanding Congress act now.
